Almond sharbat, also known as badam sharbat or sharbat-e-badam, is a traditional Pakistani drink made from roasted, blanched almonds blended with water, cardamom, and a natural sweetener. It's served chilled with water or milk and is a popular summer beverage across Pakistan for its cooling effect and nutrient content. Unlike sugar-based versions common in the market, some brands, including Chiltan Pure, sweeten their almond sharbat naturally with stevia instead of refined sugar, making it a lighter option for people managing sugar intake without giving up the traditional taste.
Almond sharbat is a thick, creamy syrup concentrate rather than a ready-to-drink beverage. A small amount is mixed into a glass of cold water or milk to make the final drink. It's distinct from almond milk, which is a diluted, ready-to-drink product; sharbat is a flavored concentrate meant to be diluted at home, closer to a squash or syrup in format.
Traditionally, almonds are soaked overnight, peeled, and blended into a fine paste, then combined with water, sugar or a natural sweetener, and ground cardamom to build flavor and a smooth, pourable consistency. Chiltan Pure's version follows this process but replaces refined sugar with stevia leaves, keeping the syrup naturally sweet without added sugar or artificial preservatives.
Almonds are a concentrated source of Vitamin E, magnesium, fiber, and unsaturated fats, and these carry through into the syrup. Regular use is commonly associated with supporting heart health by helping manage LDL cholesterol, keeping skin hydrated through Vitamin E, supporting bone strength via magnesium, and providing a steady energy boost from healthy fats and natural carbohydrates. Its cooling effect also makes it a go-to drink during hot weather, when the body needs both hydration and a flavorful way to take in fluids.
This is where formulation matters most. Sharbat made with refined sugar isn't suitable for low-sugar or keto approaches, but a stevia-sweetened version avoids added sugar while keeping the same taste and texture. It's worth noting that almonds themselves still contain natural carbohydrates, so "sugar-free" refers to no added sugar rather than zero carbs — useful context for anyone tracking intake closely.
The standard serving is 2–3 tablespoons mixed into a glass of chilled water or milk, stirred well and served with ice. Beyond drinking it straight, it also works drizzled over pancakes or oatmeal, blended into smoothies, or used as a natural sweetener in baking and cold coffee.
Anyone with a tree nut allergy should avoid it entirely, and people managing diabetes should check ingredients and consult a doctor before adding it to their routine, since it still contains natural sugars from almonds even in sugar-free formulations.
Almond sharbat remains one of Pakistan's most enduring summer drinks, and choosing a version made with natural sweeteners and no preservatives is a straightforward way to keep the tradition while cutting back on added sugar.
