Germall Plus Liquid / جرمال پلس لیکوئڈ

Germall Plus is a synthetic broad-spectrum preservative blend widely relied upon in the cosmetic and personal care industry. Available in liquid form, it combines diazolidinyl urea — a formaldehyde-releasing antimicrobial agent — with methylparaben and propylparaben, all carried in propylene glycol. This preservative system has been in active use since the 1970s and remains one of the most established and well-documented options available to cosmetic formulators at every level.

Its effectiveness lies in a multi-mechanism approach. Diazolidinyl urea inhibits bacterial growth through controlled formaldehyde release, while methylparaben and propylparaben target yeast and mold. This combination delivers comprehensive protection across a broad microbial spectrum at use levels as low as 0.3%, without affecting the texture, color, or scent of the finished formulation.

Recommended Usage

Skincare (Creams, Serums, Lotions)

Germall Plus is ideally suited for water-based skincare where microbial contamination risk is highest. Add to the aqueous phase at 0.3% to 0.5% and mix thoroughly before emulsification.

Haircare (Shampoo, Conditioner, Masks)

Provides effective preservation across all rinse-off and leave-on hair products containing water. Incorporate into the water phase at 0.3% to 0.5% before combining with other components.

Soap Making (Cold Process, Melt and Pour)

Not recommended for cold process soap where pH typically reaches 9 to 10, exceeding Germall Plus's effective range. In melt and pour bases, effectiveness depends on the water content and final pH of the base.

Body Care (Scrubs, Butters, Balms)

Anhydrous products such as pure butters and oil balms do not require aqueous preservatives. Use Germall Plus only when the formulation contains a water phase or is an oil-in-water emulsion.

Functional Cosmetics (Deodorants, Sunscreen, Baby Care)

Well-suited for deodorant sprays, sunscreen emulsions, and general body cosmetics within the pH range. Note that propylparaben is prohibited in leave-on products for children under 3 years old under EU regulations — verify compliance before use in baby care products.
